Class 4 Assignment 6a: Facebook pages and groups

Facebook pages are a way for businesses, organizations and people to create a presence on Facebook. I have noticed myself on Facebook that most businesses don’t have Facebook pages like regular users do. You cannot become a friend with a Facebook page. Pages are visible to everyone on Facebook by default. By liking the page the user is now in lack of better words subscribed to it. They will now receive updates from that page.

Movies and television shows often have Facebook pages as well. These pages will often post updates on the show or movie development. Liking a Facebook page will let a user receive the updates automatically. Also other people will see that you liked that page. That in turn can help you connect you with people of similar interests.

  Groups are in contrast for smaller groups of people. Groups allow people to come together for a common cause or interest. My personal experience with Facebook groups is always for an event of some kind. It’s usually for a birthday or some other type of party. Also a group has the option of being public or being private. A private group requires an invitation to join while a public group means anyone can join.
Groups are used for other things beside birthday parties though. They can be used as a fundraiser. They can also be used for organizational purposes. People can use the groups to get people together. Like groups members of a particular group can also see who else is a member of that group. There is usually an administrator of a group. It is usually the creator of the group. The administrator is the only person who can make changes to the group.
