Growing my Twitter followers

I found this twitter gatherer suggestion at TheNextWeb. It was good advice on how to get more followers. Commenting on popular topics gets my name involved. It's a good way to get my name out there.
I found this helpful hint at michaelhyatt.com. It showed me that retweeting others gives me a better opportunity to gather more followers. I retweeted some famous people to get some followers.
I got this helpful hint at search engine journal. It showed me that to start getting followers I had to start following people. Getting my name out there is a big step to getting more people to notice me.
this is how many followers I have at the beginning of the assignment

started following the NFL on twitter

I started following some celebrities as well in an attempt to get my name out there

I retweeted a post from sportscenter. I hope people will see this on my page and follow me because of the material I retweet.

Growing my Facebook followers

this was a good tip that I found on Social Media Examiner. It says to use your followers from your own actual Facebook page to get followers on your business or educational Facebook page.I used my personal Facebook page to promote my the Facebook page that I use for this class.

This was a good tip that I got from jeffbullas.com. It says to post stuff from your blog to your Facebook page so prospective followers will have more content to enjoy. It also gives better motive to have them follow you.

Adding more visual images is a good way to attract followers. Words can be descriptive, but an image is a immediate attention getter. I uploaded some photos to my Facebook in an attempt to get more followers. I got this tip from sbinformation.

my followers at the beginning of this assignment.

I posted my the Facebook page that I use for school to my personal Facebook page. I asked for followers.

I decided to try out the tip I got about posting my blog to my Facebook page. I decided to post my blogger account to Facebook in an attempt to gather new followers.

I also decided to add photos to my account in an attempt to get followers. I posted a photo from my previous immersive education course that shows me building inside meshmoon rocket.
this is the actual photo I uploaded to Facebook. It shows my avatar constructing a lawn and porch for my team's house we built.
Got a new friend on Facebook!

Immersive education 2015 virtual reality

This iED summit will take place in Paris this year. The 2015 immersive education summit will be held in the Fall. This summit as like the others will build off the success of the previous years summit. The thing that excites me the most about this years summit is that they will be discussing virtual reality hardware.

I learned a little about the Oculus Rift last year in one of my immersive education courses. I was quite impressed with what I saw and actually pretty excited. I am eager to try one myself and I think I will get the opportunity to because the price tag is pretty affordable. I was expecting around a thousand dollars for such a piece of equipment. But the latest oculus rift is only about $350.

The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality head mounted display. The rift gives the user a fully immersive type of video game experience. The player actually uses the movement of their own bodies to control their playable character. The Oculus Rift is a more enjoyable virtual experience because the games are specifically tailored to the rift.

A similar product has been made by big name company Samsung. Their product is called the Samsung Gear VR. The Samsung product gives the user a 96 degree viewing angle. That is quite impressive. The gear VR can also be used as a home cinema. Also the Gear VR allows the user to enter a virtual world where they will have a complete 360 degree viewing angle.

Google has a virtual reality product that is more less technical and much more affordable. It is so simple that people are actually able to build one themselves. It is basically just a box made out of cardboard. But when used with the right smartphone it can be transformed into a fully virtual experience. This video below demonstrates both the Oculus Rift and the Samsung Gear VR. The video also shows the strengths and weaknesses of both products. I am impressed by both products and how well they can used to have a virtual game experience and a cinema experience. The summit will go into great detail about virtual reality technologies.

iED summit 2015 - Game Based Learning

In this blog I will be talking about the 2015 iED Summit that will be held in Paris. I will be focusing on the topic of game based learning. Game based learning is a a great and innovative way to help children grow. It captures a child's attention and of course makes the educaional material easier and more fun to learn.

The purpose of this topic is to talk about the importance of technology in education. Most people in this village did not have access to education. Most of the people who lived in the village were illiterate. The tablets were used to help prevent this trend. It was quite amazing to see how technology is used to curb illiteracy. More on this can be found at mediagrid.org.
One of the biggest obstacles in this remote village was the fact that most of the adults were illiterate. If the adults were illiterate how were they expected to teach kids to not be illiterate? The mobile technology allowed the students to learn from sources that were not illiterate. Also children are naturally curious creatures. They will find a way to learn if they are given the chance.
The benefits of this mobile technology learning is that it gives hope to their remote village. Their village has been most likely remained remote because the adults in that village are not educated enough to change it. Her approach is a fundamentally different way to combat this set of issues. If the children are able to learn to read without access to schools then they have a chance to further themselves. More on this can be found at mediagrid.org

Even for kids who do have access to school there is still benefit to mobile technology. Some of the schooling given is so inadequate that there still is a high chance that a child may not learn the necessary literary skills. The tablets at least help the children develop an ability to be able to read in some literary manner.
This video shows the power of mobile technology. A boy is educating himself through using the tablet. Although there are no physical teachers around the possibility of an education is still possible. It is quite amazing to see this happening. A young boy is able to teach himself the alphabet. Others are able to learn colors through the tablets.

iED Summit 2015- Educational Technology

In this blog I will be writing on a topic from the 2015 Immersion Education Summit.
This iED summit will be held in Paris. This iED Summit 2015 focused on new and revolutionary ways of immersive technologies Virtual technologies are also discussed to be a new and improved form of learning.

I really like the idea of bringing technology into the classroom. A lot of studies have found that interactive teaching is a more effective form of education. This form of learning allows for a more collaborative social type of learning. Virtual classrooms allow for more interaction between classmates. More on this can be found at summit.immersiveeducation.org/
A topic of this summit was educational software and hardware. Allowing students and prospective learners the opportunity to work in a virtual environment lets the students collaborate but also work independently. Students are able to at any time ask their classmates questions about troubling assignments.
A classroom in India was given multiple computers for children to use. They weren’t really given any instruction on how to use it except on how to turn it on and bring up the internet. What happened next was quite amazing. Students were actually able to learn how to use the computer because they had their classmates as resources.
This summit also addressed the aspect of cultural dimensions of educational technology. Education technology connects students from around the world. Instead of being confined to a classroom the world is now at their fingertips. This gives the students a greater interest in their pursuit of learning.
This video shows a man named Sugata Mitra. He is a leader in educational technology. He shows how beneficial it can be to make learning more interactive and more technological. His video shows similarities to topics talked about at this summit.

Immersion 2015 3D printing

Immersion 2015 includes a lot of interesting topics. It brings together brilliant minds to talk about digital technologies. It is quite amazing how much digital technology is being used in today’s society. Immersion 2015 will be held in Paris in the fall of 2015. The summit will talk about immersive technologies

The first topic I will write about that is discussed at this summit is the 3D printing. 3D printing is a magnificient advancement in modern technology.  More information can be found at summit.immersiveeducation.org/
3D printing is a powerful tool and can be widely used in our society. Technology has allowed us to tell stories like never before.  Traditional Hollywood was confined to physical world. It limited the mind because we weren’t allowed to fully express what we were actually thinking. Since the development of three dimensional printing, we can literally create any image we think of.
The power of 3D imaging is that it gives depth to the image being created. Old school cartoons are all 2D. We can see the image but we are only given a restricted angular view. I remember how animated Christmas movies used to be when I was a child.  3D really helps bring the story to life.
There is a store in a nearby mall that actually lets customer use its 3D printer. 3D printing has become a hot topic recently. Now anyone can create 3D images. Using a 3D printer gives you a better appreciation at the art of three dimensional imagery. I used it one time.  The printer literally creates layer after layer after layer of the image you put into it. It took quite a while but the end result was quite impressive.

This video I included demonstrates the amazing abilities of 3D printing. Any image that you think of can be physically created three dimensionally. It is quite a sight to see the actual process while it is happening. Layer by layer the product is made. It is really cool to the see thoughts of our minds being physically created.

Customizing Facebook

I had most of my Facebook page for this class already filled out. I did not, however, have a cover photo. I uploaded a photo I took of the Guinness Factory during my trip to Ireland last summer.

Testing Twitter

I am following Immersive Education on Twitter. Professor Walsh just posted a tweet stating that 2015 immersive education courses are underway. I retweeted this so therefore it will show up on my twitter page. Retweeting spreads Professor Walsh’s post to my twitter followers. Also the hashtags used in the tweet will help anybody looking at it find other tweets containing the same hashtags. So for example when I clicked #BC I was referred to a page that listed other tweets containing #BC.

On the road to mastering YouTube

YouTube is one of my favorite websites. I could spend hours upon hours a day looking at videos. It is a great site to find popular music and songs. Every famous and up and coming singer posts their music onto YouTube. That’s because it’s a great platform for it to be heard. Recently YouTube has a music specific page to its website. It’s literally right on its homepage. Upon clicking it you come across a wide selection of music. YouTube actually becomes familiar over time with your listening patterns and it will work to find you similar songs.

Although it may not seem like it YouTube is also a great educational tool. Many news stations have YouTube accounts and they post stories and alerts to their page. YouTube also has a What to Watch page and it will periodically give you updated videos according to what your subscriptions may be.

Subscriptions is a big part of YouTube. Users can utilize this tool to pretty much become a member of a YouTube channel. I myself am subscribed to several YouTube pages. Subscriptions are so powerful because it lets you follow a certain person or topic. Say if I wanted to find videos of Chiropractic care. Then I would search for a chiropractic channel that might show several videos. After watching them I can then subscribe to the channel so I can receive updates when newer videos are poster.

YouTube also gives users the chance to embed or share videos onto different websites. Multiple sites are supported to accommodate YouTube videos. The benefit of first uploading a video to YouTube is that you only have to upload it once. From there you can just take that YouTube video and share it to other sites. A user can also specify what time he wants his embedded or shared video to start at. A little box underneath the logos to which sites support YouTube lets you chose what time to start the video.

YouTube is also one of the biggest platforms that the youth of today use to try and achieve fame. Many people do it and many people have done it successfully. Usually it starts out with a person making a relevant video. Then when their subscribers start to grow the YouTuber as they’ve become to be known start to make videos regularly. An example is Jimmy Tatro. He started making videos in High School as a hobby. Now he is a professional actor who had a prominent role in 22 Jump Street. He still makes YouTube videos. YouTube is a new and revolutionary way to achieve fame.
