Hardware System Review

The product I chose to review is the Playstation 4. I chose it because I own one and it is the best video game platform that I own to date. I bought it about a year ago and I believe I spent around $420 on it. Today it hovers around the $399 mark. It is the most I ever spent of a video game platform but the money was well worth it. The console allows me to play video games in a very immersive way. The controller is much more advanced than it was for the Playstation 3.

The controller has a touchpad on it which can be used in various ways. In Grand Theft Auto it allows me to quickly switch weapons with just a swipe of my thumb. The controller also has a little speaker built into it. The speaker usually produces the secondary sounds which is pretty cool. By secondary sounds I mean when the character is on the phone. My character’s face comes through the regular TV speakers but the character on the other end of the phone comes through the controller speaker.

The main competitor to Sony’s Playstation 4 is of course Microsoft’s Xbox One. Microsoft and Sony are usually the two companies who compete over video game console systems. The other console competing with it would probably be Nintendo’s Wii or one of their handheld systems. Nintendo, however, isn’t as much of a threat to the Playstation 4 as the Xbox One is. I prefer the Playstation 4 over the Xbox one because I have more friends who have a Playstation. The online feature of the Playstation is great because I can interact with them even with I am home. It especially helps on days like today when there is so much snow outside.

This is an assignment from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Collaborative Computing. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc
