Class 4 Assignment 3

SMITHSONIAN
City of Oulu, Finland
University of South Australia

The video about the Smithsonian was very cool because it reminded me of a Tomb Raider game. It was very interesting to see how immersive smithsonian was. The avatar was actually climbing the side of a mountain. The Finland video was interesting because it showed how technology is being integrated into today's curriculum. Children of today will grow up with an extensive understanding of technology. The university of South Australia video was interesting because it showed how the Australian Learning and Teaching Council is working towards making 3D learning platforms more accessible.

immersive education's twitter page. it shows i am now following them.

Truth be told I was already following these pages from another online course that I took. I took a course with Professor Mikolajczak two semesters ago and she made us do this.

The progressive jpeg loaded from the top to the bottom when the page reloaded. The interlaced png seemed to start of blurry but then gradually increased in resolution.

ENHANCING MY 3D VIRTUAL WORLD WITH A 2D GRAPHICS TOOL

opened my avatar in gimp

started by using the bucket tool to change the color of my avatar's clothes

added a sweet tie to his outfit using the pencil tool

drew some birds in the background

made a microphone stand for my avatar using the ellipse select tool and the free select tool

added a cloud in the background

exported the image as a png file to my folder
It was pretty cool how much I could do to the image of my avatar using GIMP. I played around with the tools for a little bit before I did anything. Once I got use to the tools I started altering the image. I was surprised how easy it was to change the clothing of my avatar. It was also cool being able to create objects from nothing.

Meshmoon Avatar

This is what my avatar originally looked like. He's kinda sassy.

using the edit avatar tool under the sessions tab

changed my avatar into a priest
Mathea's and Billy's avatar after they changed. Billy changed into a hip hop avatar while mathea chose a different female avatar

Meshmoon Exploration

Group at Lunar World

German Fire Fighting Museum
Circus

Ikea World Lol

Group photo in livng room
It was fun exploring the different world's of meshmoon rocket. My favorite would have to  be the circus world. There was games in there that were actually playable which was pretty cool. Also they have a cannon in there that you could actually shoot your avatar out of.

Web Rocket and Virtual World Framework each had their own positive and negative qualities. Web Rocket was much easier to explore. You could double click on a location in Web Rocket and it would automatically move your avatar there. Also the avatar moved much more quickly in Web Rocket than it did in Virtual World Framework. The Virtual World Framework avatar seemed to be a little too rigid for my liking. It also moved very slowly when I controlled it.
Web Rocket was much quicker loading than Virtual World Framework was. There was some times where I needed to reload the page because the world seemed to freeze up. Virtual World Framework did have better graphics however. The landscapes were beautiful and the attention to detail was amazing. If I had to choose between the two I would probably go with Virtual World Framework because of how amazing the graphics were.

Red Eye Assignment

opening the photo in gimp
exporting the photo as a jpeg
exporting the photo as a gif
exporting the photo as a png

exported png file of red eye

exported gif file of red eye

exported jpeg file of red eye

I'd have to say there is a clear difference between the three photo types. PNG seems to have the clearest quality while JPEG is a close second. GIF on the other is way behind quality wise. It is very blurry and not as clean looking as the other images. When I exported the photo to a JPEG format it added a black border to the photo. PNG is my top choice
